Too often, individuals delay or avoid critical treatment or safe housing because they have nowhere for their pets to go. Safe Paws Recovery Housing of Michiana was created to address this gap — ensuring pets remain safe while families focus on healing and stability.

Mission

Safe Paws Recovery Housing of Michiana exists to provide safe, temporary housing and compassionate care for companion animals while their owners navigate crisis, treatment, hospitalization, or housing instability—preserving the human–animal bond and preventing unnecessary pet surrender.

What Guides Our Work

Temporary Housing:

We are building a program to provide safe, temporary housing for companion animals when their owners are unable to care for them due to treatment, hospitalization, incarceration, or other periods of crisis.

Compassionate Care:

Our planned model prioritizes calm, consistent, and compassionate care.  We are committed to creating an environment where animals feel secure while honoring the emotional bond between pets and their families.

​Family Connection:

We recognize the powerful connection between people and their pets.  Our work is rooted in maintaining that bond during times of transition, with the goal of supporting eventual family reunification whenever possible.

Safe Paws Recovery Housing of Michiana is currently developing thoughtfully —building policies, partnerships, and systems to ensure safe, ethical, and sustainable services before becoming operational.
